Lots of G1!

Sometimes, I find that staring at a large number of Transformers, all at once, is soothing to the mind, calms the nerves and puts me in a generally docile mood. That is why I have this section. That means this is the 'default' section where I will post up group shots of either lots of Transformers toys, lots of Transformers boxes or both, but not in much order.

The 1986, Transformers: The Movies commemorative sets - Goodbye Convoy and Goodbye Megatron

Goodbye Megatron - quickly becoming one of my favourite pieces

The Decepticon communicators, both belonging to E - 17-Soundwave and D-101: Soundblaster MIB

These are in my Singapore home. Notably, there are the 3 Maximii with the Grand-daddy of Transformers among them - C-311: Grand Maximus.

Series 1

The Decepticon Seekers

The Dinobots - Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Snarl and Swoop

Series 3

Fortress Maximus

Grand Maximus

Scorponok and his Japanese counterpart - Black Zarak

Fortress Maximus is still the man

Jetfires x 03

3 sets of Victory Sabers

3 Deszaras'

3 Liokaisers

The Decepticon Targetmasters

The Deluxe Insecticons

These next 2 shots are from my Rainbow Street, Kingsford home. Back then, I was so fascinated with boxes, I didn't even bother with the toys. 'Course I have each toy for each corresponding box, but I just didn't deign to photograph the toys.

The Pretender army!

I like slim and flat Transformer boxes.

Among these batch of boxes, I have been searching for the Springer, Perceptor and Ratchet boxes for the longest time.

Cardbacks for my favourite combiner team, the Stunticons.

The Stunticons

The Autobot Powermasters

The Autobot and Decepticon Headmasters

The Autobot and Decepticon Headmaster Juniors

USA and Japanese Headmaster Juniors

The Autobot Headmasters and Autobot Targetmasters

The Clones

The Pretender motorcycles

Very minty MIB with all inserts and paperworks 1987 Targetmasters from my Bathurst Street, Sydney apartment. I have an MIB Targetmaster Scourge the completes the set, but its not pictured.

The next 2 photos features Transformers from one mega lot I bought from a single person. I've sold about 90% of these and only kept a choice few.

The next 4 shots are of Transformer boxes from my Bathurst Street, Sydney apartment. Most of them comes with inserts and complete toys.

Some eHobby exclusives from my Singapore apartment.

Crazy lot of Transformers boxes from my Bathurst Street, Sydney apartment. This particular window looks out onto the HSBC Building opposite. These shots were taken on a weekend when E was very busy at work.

Masterforce figures

G1 combiners, almost all of them bar Battle Gaia and Guard City.

Operation Combiner giftsets

  3. Wow.... I mean, I thought I was getting somewhere completing American G1's... I'm not sure if you are an inspiration or a discouragement. I considered sharing your blog (which is quite entertaining) with some local collectors, but I don't care to dampen there spirits with your... outlandish and incomparable hoard. I would like to whole-heartedly congratulate you on this empiric collection. I look forward to more write ups about these rare gems you find and the subsequent calamity. OUT FREAKING STANDING.

    1. hi and thanks for dropping by! Thanks for the kind words too.

I'd be more than happy for you to share the 'discovery' of this site with your other collector friends. One of my aims was to provide a resource for other G1 collectors and also some insight into finding stuff and where to find them. Really no intention to dampen spirits rather than inspire fellow collectors! =)

  4. Hello Heroic Decepticon, I just wanted to tell you that I admire your collection, I have started mine more 1 year ago, I am 34 so I watched the cartoons as a boy but had very little original g1's at the time. a few years back I got my g1 optimus prime which was the gift I never received as a kid, then i bought a few more, but I recently started as a hard core collector spending a lot on them, but it feels so good when I got a new member in my collection, I m still collecting loose g1's so most of them are without the box. I hope you can give me a few tips about collecting, I live in Chile ( southamerica ) if you have facebook please add me to your contacts, cheers!

    1. hello Carlos, thanks for dropping by and thanks for the kind words! We are quite alike in that we both watched the cartoon when we were young. Such a great cartoon and such great memories it holds for me.

Good luck with the hunt for G1! Nowadays, some pieces are really expensive, but the good news is that you can get most of the 1984 to 1985 characters more easily because many have been reissued.

Chile is a very nice place. I was there (in Santiago) in Dec 2012 and it was beautiful. However, I have no idea how to get Transformers there other than perhaps online shops?

Good luck with the collecting! =)

    2. Hey Carlos!

I hope you don't mind if I poke in a response. I just wanted to say welcome to the collector's side of the fandom. That, and give you three tips that I have learned and wish I knew in the beginning:

      1) Make the collection about you: Remember that you are the collector, and it is characters/series and not the numbers that help define that.

      2) Find ways to talk about your collection: The "Wow!" factor is not tied to just the piece, but is also tied to how and why you acquired the piece.

      3) Try to avoid the "Maz Effect" (pun on "Mass Effect"): As in try to avoid temptation you face when reading articles/blogs, unless you need a reason to get said line/piece.

In the end... Just keep it simple, and always remember that being "hardcore" is more in the compassion than the numbers. So while I hope it was okay for me to say these things, I also hope you will add me on FB. Up to you. And I will hope that you experience great adventures and fun moments when it comes to collecting. :)

  5. Your "fun factory" makes me want to collect even more!! This collection belongs in a museum. I am more of an collector of all the Transformers memorabilia. Don't get me wrong, I still have my collection of robots and such, but I go crazy when I find a set of stickers, radio, lunchbox, train set, coloring book, wallet and the most elusive, "Optimus Prime cookie jar." Thanks for raising the bar and encouraging others to collect! Better than collecting coins and stamps...

    1. Hi, thanks for dropping by and reading. I’m fond of my collection, but I’m sure there are better ones out there that deserve the museum treatment more – check out my buddy’s site - http://mostlytransformersredux.blogspot.hk/p/my-collection-1984-through-1995.html

Memorabilia is cool too. With TFs, there’s just so much memorabilia that if you are a completist, its very difficult to complete (and I’m not even sure if its possible!).

TFs are certainly better than stamps or coins from my perspective =)

  7. Hi there again it's been said loads already but I'm totally in awe of your collection. I've just finished all of the American and main hasbro releases of the G1 range.
I'm now collecting or should i say trying to collect the Japanese ones too but I don't stand a chance if you keep buying them over and over!!! Lol
Every night I'm on the Japanese websites. I was wandering if any of the Japanese toy stores you profile have English or even websites I could buy from. I know the prices will be more but it's better than taking the risk on auction sites.
Look forward to your reply and happy new year to you!

  9. Hey I am wondering about the Ark playset or whatever you wanna call it on the top shelf of all the combiners. Is it plastic like it looks? Is it a custom piece or something you bought? I am pretty new to serious Transformer collecting so I am still unfamiliar with a lot of the unusual and obscure stuff out there.
