Ultimate Custom Transformers Seeker Plane Jet WOW!!! (auction #160625261277)

I showed this auction to E yesterday night while we were having dinner with her sister, because I thought it was a fascinating concept (but also very funny!).

E loved it and said we should support the seller by bidding. Her sister eyed us suspiciously and thought we were crazy.

I bidded on behalf of E.

We bid $11 first and lost out to the previous bidder right-away. E said, 'let's bid again!'.

We bid $11.50 and was the high-bidder. E was satisfied.

We went to watch Kung-Fu Panda 2 (very nice popcorn) and then returned home to check that we were still the high-bidder.

With 5 hours to go, we couldn't stay up to 'prevent' people from sniping us and decided to leave it to fate. We went to bed hoping that we'd win the auction for Mr Awesome!

Woke up this morning to find that we did win Mr Awesome! Yum (okay, not dog compatible).

So, what is Mr Awesome?

This is the seller's eBay description (I tried to match his/her text colour):

"Ultimate Custom Transformers!!!

Look at this serious custom work! This amazing guy can change into a jet and back into robot! But that's not all. THE PLANE FLY FOR REAL!!! Make sure you transfrom him properly then, gently launch it in the air. THIS WILL KNOCK YOU SOCK OFF! Mr Awesome will conquer both the Autobots AND Decepticons just because he's so AWESOME! Made entirely of the cellulose of real LIVING TREES! First time you heard of a Transformers that is close to nature. even if he transform into a effing JET?! Hey, not even Beast Wars can make such a claim! This custom took hours and HOURS of making. The following result will be the most perfect and ULTIMATE piece in your collection!

CAPSLOCK LIKE THE FIST OF THE NORTH STAR JUST TO POINT OUT THAT THIS TRANSFORMERS IS THE ULTIMATE IN AWESOME!

Paypal only. Serious bidders only. No bull, I'm warning you. No laughing when you bid. Bidding on this awesome TF is like, the most serious and critical thing you will do in your whole life! And because I'm so nice, SHIPPING IS FREE WORLDWIDE."

This is Mr Awesome!

E loved all the Q&A too, which I will record here for posterity's sake...

***

Q: Great Custom Man. I hope you can do a review of this awesome custom on YouTube as well as the transformation. Jul-29-11
A: Unfortunately, five years ago, I hade the brilliant idea of posting multiple soft porn clips on Youtube. I was banned-- "FOREVEEEEEER!!!" Pinkie Pie! I hate it when you do that! As I was saying, I would totally have done a Review. Not only of the awesomest TF ever, but also of the rest of my collection. Unfortunately, Youtube is not forgiving like 4chan. I'm really banned-- "FOREVEEEEEER!!!" Eeeeek!

***

Q: Yo this is amazing did Frenzy Rumble make it looks like his?! Jul-28-11
A: No, but I was really inspired. Fun fact: Check the list of bidders for a surprise! :)

***

Q: If I'm lucky enough to win this pinnacle of auction awesomeness, I'm getting Mr. Awesome AFA graded! Jul-28-11
A: ((O_O)) If you do, please mail me the pics! This could be beyond epic!

***

Q: Will future repaints of this item be offered in the near future? Jul-28-11
A: Maybe. But to keep the novelty up and the demand high, it could take a few weeks or a few months before the next unique and amazing desing... For I don't beleive in repaint. ONLY NEW MOLDS.

***

Q: Do you have combine shipping??? Jul-28-11
A: Well, I can certainly ship Megatron and Optimus Prime together. They certainly in a love-hate relationship. Add Starscream into the mix, and we get one interesting love tri.... Whait... You mean, "postage services". The only other item I'm selling right now is a Street-Fighter Arcade Machine find it at: http://cgi.cafr.ebay.ca/Street-Fighter-Arcade-Machine-Cabinet-Canadian-vers-/160628291005?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item25663135bd Because it's local pick-up only for that one, I cannot combine any shipping as for now.

***

Q: Your AWESOME item has inspired me to ask something that truly bothers me. Why are dogs' noses wet? Jul-27-11
A: They lick it, obviously. But be careful. Mr Awesome is not dog comatible.

***

Q: Yo bro is this drybrushed? Jul-27-11
A: Better than drybrush. It used the very ancient and arcane technique of aplying a very complex ink trough a felt medium. Before applying said ink, one must have his Ying and Yang in perfect equilibrium. Before each stroke, one must breath deeply ten time, achieving the state of mind required to pour the maximum awesomness such a piece deserves. Now that you know, you can call me: MASTER.

***

Q: If the item does not come completely mint, can I return the item for a full refund? Jul-27-11
A: NO RETURNS. Mr Awesome will come into a hard envelope. Remember that the envelope itself is his docking bay accessory. Just the fact of touching and looking at Mr Awesome, Mr Awesome will fall for you. If you return him, it will break his heart... You want to break Mr Awesome's heart? WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARE YOU?!

***

Q: dude are you serious on selling this? ^_^ it's a joke right? coz' I kinda laugh at it especially on the description panel thumbs up :P Jul-27-11
A: I'm really serious for selling this. Hey, it started at ONE CENT. With FREE shipping. People will pay what they think this AWESOME TRANSFORMERS think it's worth. So far, I'm thanking everyone who play along. Also, My full congratulation for the one who will win the auction! I assure you, once paymkent is cleared, full positive feedback will be given. Thanks again everyone, you are all AWESOME! (...but not as awesome as Mr Awesome.)

***

Q: I am not sure ULTIMATE is a strong enough word for this... I think you just raised the bar to high for customs... Would it be easy for you to add LEDs? Again, I can't BELIEVE the ULTIMATE AWESOMENESS that is :SEEKER JET PLANE!! Thanks for the inspiration.. Jul-27-11
A: Oh, if I'd add LEDs, your face would MELT from an AWESOMNESS OVERDOSE. For security reasons I cannot. :(

***

Q: Do you ship CHINA?! Jul-27-11
A: YES! I'm shipping FREE and WORLDWIDE. By lettermail. And normally, you will not have any custom fees. But as for Italy and Spain... Their postage services are slow as hell... So be warned!

***

Q: Is it complete with all accessories? I don't see any in the pics. Jul-27-11
A: It is complete. It will come with his awesome docking bay! In plane mode, it will snugly fit inside, wings folded. The docking bay might even come with some colorful pieces of art on the outside, upper right corner! You know, a homebase is not complete without some tasteful deco.

***

Q: Are there any issues with paint rub? Jul-26-11
A: Never! The paint was MARKED PERMANENTLY. So, it will NEVER rub off. Guaranteed. Don't forget that this Transformers is the ultimate for any customs. EVER!!!

***

Q: You say this item is new, I'm not so sure it is, has it been transformed? Jul-26-11
A: It have been transformed in factory, by the manifacturer: me.As long that my holy hands are the only ones that have touched this awesomest custom ever, the item is NEW! Bow before me.

***

Q: LMAO!!!!! This is the greatest auction I have ever seen on ebay... Just AWESOME!!! Jul-26-11
A: The Geat and Powerful Jin and the mythical FR sell awesome customs. I had to emulate my heroes! @_@

***

You know what the scary thing is?

If E keeps this mint and together with his custom loading dock, it's going to be worth more than my entire G1 Transformers collection, beware! =)

Korean Contemporary Art - Power of Art Exhibition at Times Square (Causeway Bay)

This is pretty cool.

I was in Times Square today (not in the US, but in Causeway Bay), and saw this exhibition.

It was an Art exhibition by 3 Korean artists - Mioon, Shin Chi-Hyun and Yoo Young-Wun, title the "Korean Contemporary Art: The Power of Art".

Here are some photos.

Art screen

The Queen and Bruce Lee

Moroe

Some details, these all appear to be made up of shredded paper! (the Korean text can still be seen on the paper)

Elvis "The King". Thought that "The King" should be next to the "The Queen". Oh, well, that's my sense anyway...

Wonder Woman, the only comic character to be featured in this exhibition, ...

... unless this is Spider-Man...

Journey to the West diorama, with Donkey from Shrek as the 'donkey' that carries Tripitaka's things...

Shrek as "Sandy the Monk" from Journey to the West

About Me

I write stuff about Transformers.

I have an unhealthy obsession about them 'Robots in Disguise' - The Transformers. I'm also fond of other '80s stuff- like Visionaries, He-Man, M.A.S.K., Thundercats, Ghostbusters, Starcom and more. I am not interested in Go-Bots. I think Power Rangers are not even funny.

I'm also an avid comics fan, novel fan and Anime fiend. I enjoy the writing of Neil Gaiman (The Sandman, Books of Magic, Marvel 1602, Stardust), Simon Furman (Transformers), Jim Starlin (Thanos Quest, Infinity Gauntlet), Bill Willingham (Fables, House of Mystery), Matthew Sturges (House of Mystery),  Frank Miller (The Dark Knight Returns, Daredevil, All-Star Batman and Robin), Grant Morrison (Batman, All-Star Superman), Jeph Loeb (Long Halloween, Superman/Batman), Brad Melzer (Identity Crisis) and Geoff Johns (Green Lantern Saga, Blackest Night).

I enjoy the artwork of Jim Lee (Classic X-Men, Punisher: War Journal, Uncanny X-Men, WildC.A.T.s, Batman: Hush, Superman: For Tomorrow), Todd McFarlane (Incredible Hulk, Amazing Spider-Man, Spawn), Geoff Senior (Transformers, Dragon's Claws), Tim Sale (Long Halloween), Ed Benes (Justice League of America), Jim Aparo (Batman), Neal Adams (Batman), Don Figuroa (Transformers), Dan Khanna (Transformers) and EJ Su (Transformers).

So, who am I actually?

I am from Singapore, one of the smallest countries in the world. It was the year 1984 and I was so much less than a decade old. I was fascinated with Transformers since seeing them on toy shelves. The first Transformer I set eyes on was Sunstreaker. Fascination blossomed into an obsession of sorts when the US G1 Cartoons hit the Singapore airwaves and the rest, as they say, is history, which I have chronologically documented in chapters here.

I think that Transformers are the best thing since sliced bread (ok, admittedly a lot of the Marvel comics from the late 80s and early 90s come very very close to Transformers).

After all my childhood Transformers were given away by my mum, I restarted collecting Transformers from scratch in 1999 at the Sunday Clarke Quay flea markets and from friends.

I have been in Australia since 2003. I have continued to collect Transformers from this base away from home. There is no equivalent of 'Clarke Quay' or 'China Square Central' in Australia. It is very tough to be a collector in Australia and oftentimes, it feels like an uphill struggle. Through eBay, I still managed to grow my collection and have made some good friends from the OZ Formers Boards. The quarterly collecting highlight here is the Parramatta Collectibles Fair (some photos here). The annual collectibles highlight is the Supanova Pop Culture Convention.

I endeavour to visit Hong Kong via Singapore at least one to two times a year for Transformers hunting expeditions. I went to Tokyo with E in January 2010 and found that it was fantastic where G1 Japanese Transformers were concerned. I plan to visit again soon.

In October 2011, I was posted to Hong Kong - a dream come true. Hong Kong is as much a collecting haven as Singapore and it's great from a collector's perspective. My favourite shop here is of course Wai Gu Kok (懷古角), which is consistently stocked with high-end, high-quality G1s. Since moving to HK, I have managed to bring my Japanese Transformers collection much close to completion - in fact, only 1 final piece is needed - Blue Bacchus from the 1989 Transformers: Victory line.

I speak fluent English, Chinese (Mandarin) and Cantonese and can weave around the above places like a seasoned Cybertronian Collecting Office- Heroic Decepticon!

Big question time. Where is my Transformer collecting at?

With these objectives in mind, I have completed the 1984 to 1990 USA released Transformers, except for Skyhopper, Anti-Aircraft Base, Tanker Transport, Missile Transport and Cannon Transport (5 pieces missing in total). I do not count the so-called 'Action Masters' as part of Series 7 (1990) as I have no interest or intention in acquiring them. I am also more than half way to completion in terms of the 1987 to 1989 Japanese exclusive Transformers (12 figures missing in total). My 2 latest Japanese exclusive acquisitions are (i) D-309: Black Shadow; (ii) TF-04: Guard City and TF-10: Battle Gaia; and (iii) all the 1987 "dino-cassettes"!

Heroic's eBay sale is now on!

After about 2-3 private sales, E and I have decided to do a "public" sale or a modest few items.

These are now listed on eBay and can be found through this link: http://shop.ebay.com/heroic_decepticon/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25

Have a look and have fun bidding if you are interested!

HK Market Watch - Generations Warpath

Been flat out busy for the past 2 weeks.

Did not manage to visit the shops at all.

Happened to walk by CWB today and went to ToyZone16 - there were 2 pieces of MOSC Generations Warpath there for a bargain price (in today's market) of HKD$200.

Some (random) acquisitions - Pretenders and pretender guns

Over the last week and a bit, I have randomly acquired some things.

Randomly acquired, but not randomly selected to acquire.

By this I mean that these were things I wanted. I saved the eBay auctions on my watch list and virtually forgot about them until I got a reminder on my iPad or iPhone and then just decided to bid there and then (usually within a hour or so of them ending).

As it turns out, I did win 2 auctions for a group of figures.

From YMT, random ActionMaster picks... Over-Run and Circuit...

eBay auction #1 - Stranglehold with helmet and gun from the UK. I just needed the small orange gun. It's hard to believe how infrequently this comes up on eBay (other than auctions for complete Strangleholds) - pictured in group shot below

eBay auction #2 - Job lot of Pretenders from the UK. For this lot, I was interested in Thunderwing, which is in better condition than mine and more importantly, Longtooth's small grey gun! Again, It's hard to believe how infrequently this comes up on eBay (other than auctions for complete Longtooths).

Longtooth inner robot holding the fabled (small) Longtooth gun and (small) Stranglehold gun!

Thunderwing

I might just do some shots of my 'new' Thunderwing and my recently acquired Black Shadow... heh.

The one key place in Singapore for toys is China Square Central in Chinatown. On Sundays, there is a "flea market" there, where the shops double exponentially and lots of toys are on sale 'garage sale' style.

The map above does NOT contain a comprehensive list of toy shops in Singapore. There are just too many to list, but not all are important where Transformers are concerned. I have however listed the key places to go.

The full story (Part 4) - Autobot Communicators

This happened between when I paid the dino-cassette seller on 30 May and 10 June when the dino-cassettes finally arrived.

Recap for self - In late May, I acquired D-101: Soundblaster from my trip in Osaka. I returned to HK and surreptitiously managed to snag a 17: Soundwave from my trusty toy shop. So there, the Decepticon communicators were covered. Check!

After payment on 30 May and with the dino-cassettes’ impending arrival, I started to think – what about the Autobot communicators? See, the dino-cassettes which are Autobots by the way, need their communicators right? In my vast inventory of Transformers, I have a vintage USA boxed Blaster, a loose vintage Twincast, a TFC reissue Blaster and an eHobby reissue Twincast. To be honest, I wasn’t really bothered to go after more Blasters and Twincasts after owning those 4. But now I have the dino-cassettes arriving. These gems deserve their vintage communicator, no loose piece, no reissue, but the true blue vintage MIB version of Twincast and Broadblast!

At the back of my mind, I knew where I could pick BOTH these pieces up, if I were but willing to pay the price. I know a particular shop in Sino Centre was selling a MIB unused 38: Broadblast; and I know my usual shop had a MIB unused C-116: Twincast for sale. Problem was, I think they are overpriced (hence they have been there for months and months and are still there). The condition is great, price was the impediment.

Not one to be easily deterred, I set out for Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei one fine evening.

I went to the shop with the Twincast first. This is the shop I have been buying lots and lots of things from over the years and especially in recent months (I think I spend thousands with them on a monthly basis). I said to the owner “hey, very interested in Twincast now, but I don’t like the price. Can you do
better?”. He said “sure, you can have it for HKD $2000 off the list price”. Wow. “Ok, deal done”, I said.

Next, I headed to Sino Centre for 38: Broadblast. I said more or less the same thing to the owner “hey, very interested in Broadblast now, but I don’t like the price. Can you do better?”. He said “sure, you can have it for HKD $300 off the list price”. Hmmm, still expensive for Blaster. I tried to haggle a little, but he said he can’t budge due to his cost. In the end, I said okay. What the heck, I just need the 2 Autobot communicators in Japanese box and unused! Now, I got 'em. Check!

Here they are in their glory:

More photos to come in their individual posts.

Soon, the dino-cassettes arrived and I was so happy that I had their communicators waiting for them. Don’t they look glorious to the nth degree? - Twincast and his dino-cassettes...

The money shot - Dino-cassettes with both Autobot comminicators

... and, as I said on OZ Formers, "the money-er shot"...

What an adventure right? From Osaka to Diaclone Marlboor Wheeljack to Diaclone blue Bluestreak to Japanese box Soundwave to all 4 dino-cassettes to Broadblast and Twincast MIB unused.

And still, that-is-not-all!

There is a final part… wait for it… wait for The Full Story Part 5.

Transformers Masterforce C-303: Minerva / Minelba MIB unused

This is a little of a catch up post for me.

I actually bought this some months back and have not properly updated it here on my site.

This was a very exciting purchase for me and like all my other exciting purchases, E was there with me when I bought this - it is arguably one of the rarest Masterforce figures to obtain and probably one of the rarer Japanese exclusive Transformers out there.

However, rare as it could be, there seem to be a fair few people that have this piece (some not unused).

The figure is Masterforce Minerva (or Minelba), the very first female Transformer toy.

C-303: Minelba MIB
Box = C9.5
Toy = C9.5, unused
Paperwork = complete
Sticker sheet = unused

Damn sweet...!

HK Market Watch and and Powermaster Prime and God Ginrai

Some self explanatory G1 acquisitions at unbelievable prices.

  1. G1 Powermaster Optimus Prime MIB, C7 overall - US$51.20
  2. G1 Masterforce God Ginrai giftset MIB (not reissue), C8.5 overall - US$102.70

These are not something that I am dying to obtain, but for the asking prices, pretty hard to resist.

Oh, and this shop I don't often walk past, but stumbled across  appears to have some gem-worthy G1 Japanese vintage stuff...

~ HD

It's a shadow!

So what exactly did I get at my usual G1 shop last weekend?

Well, here it is - D-309: Black Shadow MIB!

I have been searching for this piece, one of my final pieces to complete Transformers: Victory, for some time. Each time I see it or is offered, I pass because the price is just way too high or because the condition is not good, but then the asking price is incommensurately high. It is not unheard of for people to ask as much as USD$1,000 for a MIB Black Shadow, and its not even unused.

So, went there to the shop that day and I saw it sitting there.

I went "Wow, I must buy that!"

E said "ok, go for it!"

So bought it I did and this was my complete loot for 2 July 2011.

D-309: Black Shadow MIB
Box - C8, general wear
Toy - C9, very minty
Stickers - C8, general wear
Paperworks - complete, but not used sticker sheet
